Chicago Wedding | Jenny + Jake

Jenny and Jake are two vibrant, creative, and unique people and their backyard wedding at Jake's childhood home was a beautiful reflection of that.

Although they didn't have a traditional wedding party, Jenny started off the day getting ready at The Guesthouse Hotel with a few friends and family members and had a fun low-key morning filled with laughter and reminiscing. The fresh light-filled rooms were the perfect backdrop for the flurry of wedding prep. Jenny's gorgeous natural curls were styled in a perfectly undone braid by Angelica Grace, and Ashley Lahood completed Jenny's look with fresh and natural-looking makeup.

After everyone was ready, we headed over to Jake's childhood home where the wedding was held. After a a sweet first look, we did a few portraits. Jenny looked like a goddess in her Tatyana Merenyuk gown from Honey Bridal, and Jake's suit was an amazing shade of gray blue that almost perfectly matched his eyes! Jenny's romantic loosely done bouquet and simple hairpiece by InFlorEscence perfectly completed her look.

Despite a small hiccup causing Jenny to miss her cue, the ceremony was heartfelt and personal and the faces of the guests were filled with smiles as their friend and sometime roommate officiated. Jenny and Jake walked in to The Book of Love which was a song that they shared when they were first falling in love, and the recessional was another special song- Ceremony by New Order which Jenny said reminds them of college and their 20's (and who doesn't want to remember that time?!).

After a few moving and heartfelt speeches, the guests were treated to amazing food from food trucks parked outside! Yum Dum and La Cocinita kept rolling out delicious food all night (Jenny and Jake did say that their favorite part of wedding planning was food tasting!).  After everyone was full, Jenny and Jake share a sweet first dance under the night sky before the DJ, Jonathan Marks from Style Matters got the dance floor hopping! Jenny and Jake's goal for their wedding was to create a day that was meaningful and fun with a casual atmosphere which was exactly when they ended up with! It was such a laid-back and enjoyable day and so fun to see so many wonderful people come together to celebrate Jenny and Jake's love. Jenny and Jake are back to their bi-coastal life (for now) but this long distance love is truly and inspiration. When I asked them what advice they would share with future couples, this is what Jenny wrote, "Being different isn't a bad thing- you can push each other to learn and grow and choose each other all the time despite (and because of) your differences." Jake and Jenny- I'm so thankful that I had the oppotunity to be your wedding photographer!
